Why start with an assessment

Before starting any other activity, we need to understand the current status of your knowledge bases. This will allow anyone to be more effective during the next phases of the implementation project.

How to assess

It is important to collect relevant information. We do that by interviewing relevant stakeholders in each department or at least in those areas in scope for the initial project. In case your preference is for the Agile/Scrum way of work, this activity is generally performed during the first sprint of the implementation project.

What is the result

We will produce a summary of the current status of relevant knowledge bases, tools, and practices on how knowledge is collected and formalized. It will be in the format of an executive summary and detailed explanation as well.

When to perform the assessment

This activity is the starting point of each project. In case you choose to follow the Agile/Scrum way to work, we will include that in the first sprint. In case you opt for a waterfall approach, we will need to perform this activity prior to kick-off the project.

Who is involved

From our side, we will provide a scrum master in the case of Agile/Scrum or a project manager which will support the assessment in case you opt for a waterfall approach. On the customer side, we will need a strong partner who will act as product owner (Agile/Scrum) or project support/team manager (waterfall). Additionally, a project team is required to conduct internal interviews. The size of the team depends on the size of your organization. Ideally, the people involved in the assessments will be involved later on in the implementation project and in the run of the knowledge handling process.
